Star Living’s JOYCELYN CHEE points to the store’s Jottergoods collection, in collaboration with local designer Jerry Low, as strong retro-inspired examples of furniture. For example, the Journal bed pays homage to the Asian bed of the 1960s, and includes built-in storage in its headboard. Then there’s the task table, reminiscent of an industrial desk, with slim drawers on both sides.

“When you’re thinking of using retro furniture at home, accessories such as wall features, vintage ornaments and brightly coloured furniture can also play a huge part in bringing out the look. Simple washed backgrounds also complement the retro style,” she advises.

Available in both queen and king size, the bed is made in American black walnut. The wide-span solid wood top and drawerfront of this task table are fabricated in American black walnut, and mounted on a steel framework.

This chair in antique olive with painted iron legs is a simple way to add a retro feel to a desk or dining table; $79.
