THE NEW STREETWEAR... INCLUDES SOMETHING GLAM

Female (Singapore) - - EDIT -

High-meets-low dressing gets extreme, and we’re all for it.

About a decade ago, pairing a T-shirt with a frothy, ballgown-esque skirt or tutu was daring and progressive. Now, you can get the full look on Qoo10. But just when we thought we knew everything about high-meets-low dressing, fashion’s most directional designers introduce an extreme version that calls for more than just a bit of edge. Cue the two looks that you see here by Gucci’s Alessandro Michele: sporty wool balaclavas paired with jewels and dazzling cocktail dresses – his idea of “eccentric and attractive”. The likes of Chloe’s Natacha Ramsay-Levi and Dior’s Maria Grazia Chiuri one-upped the boots-meets-pretty-dress formula with plenty of ornamental details (feathered trims, applique flowers) and full-on accessories. Even Kaiser Karl’s in on it, his mix of evening gowns with gloves, flat lace-up shoes and oversized clutches at Chanel erasing all boundaries between casual and formal. This is democratic dressing at its best in seasons: Time, place and occasion don’t matter; only individuality does. Isn’t that what streetwear’s ultimately about? –NL
