Those looking for a quiet Oktoberfest, head to Picotin Express from 30 September to 9 October. Over ten days, the alfresco bistro at Bukit Timah will feature a refreshed Blackboard Specials menu introducing a porkcentric list of distinctively Western European dishes. Start off easy with Lentil Soup (S$15) before you dive into main courses of Beer-glazed Pork Belly with Savoy Cabbage and Sweet Potato Chips (S$28) or the ubiquitous crispy pork knuckle (S$30).
Nearer to the nightlife action in central Singapore, the celebration goes on for an entire month. At Robertson Quay is BRUSSELS SPROUTS with their offering of an Oktoberfest Platter (S$38): the spread of soft pretzels with Obatzda Bavarian cheese drip, a braised bratwurst in spicy beer mustard, black forest ham and potato salad is enough to keep a party of two satiated before the revelry begins. Alternatively, the Trio Pork Platter (S$69) at sque Rotisserie & Alehouse in the Clarke Quay area comprising slow-roasted pork belly, pork knuckle and barbecued pork ribs can be enjoyed with a bottle of Erdinger Weissbier with the addition of S$7. ◆ Picotin Express is located at 60 Fairways Drive; BRUSSELS SROUTS is located at #01-12 The Pier @ Robertson, 80 Mohamed Sultan Road; sque Rotisserie & Alehouse is located at #01-70, The Central, 6 Eu Tong Sen Street. www.emmanuelstroobant.com
