More than a year since tak­ing up res­i­dence at the sprawl­ing 35,000 square feet com­pound, Open Farm Com­mu­nity’s gar­dens have grown lush with veg­e­ta­tion. Gar­den­ers from Ed­i­ble Gar­dens tend to the assortment of plants and herbs, which are used in the res­tau­rant’s dishes to­gether with pro­duce from neigh­bour­ing coun­tries. Tak­ing things a step fur­ther, the a la carte of­fer­ings have been lo­calised even more with flavours that bring to mind Sin­ga­porean food.

Com­bin­ing sel­dom-used veg­eta­bles and a sense of fa­mil­iar­ity in the same dish is no easy feat. Although the in­no­va­tive ad­di­tions are ad­mirable, some leave us with an odd taste in our mouths. How­ever, there are gems worth try­ing such as the Steak tar­tar mar­i­nated with gin­ger chilli with a squeeze of spring onion and co­rian­der puree, topped with an or­ganic egg yolk (S$26). An­other is the Tem­pura frog legs, from a farm in Jurong, which comes with a mild root vegetable curry (S$26).
