Open Farm Community

Food and Travel (Singapore) - - Out And About -

More than a year since taking up residence at the sprawling 35,000 square feet compound, Open Farm Community’s gardens have grown lush with vegetation. Gardeners from Edible Gardens tend to the assortment of plants and herbs, which are used in the restaurant’s dishes together with produce from neighbouring countries. Taking things a step further, the a la carte offerings have been localised even more with flavours that bring to mind Singaporean food.

Combining seldom-used vegetables and a sense of familiarity in the same dish is no easy feat. Although the innovative additions are admirable, some leave us with an odd taste in our mouths. However, there are gems worth trying such as the Steak tartar marinated with ginger chilli with a squeeze of spring onion and coriander puree, topped with an organic egg yolk (S$26). Another is the Tempura frog legs, from a farm in Jurong, which comes with a mild root vegetable curry (S$26). You can also opt for the Lunch with the Locals set menu for a two- (S$35), three- (S$42) or fourcourse (S$52) meal made entirely from locally-sourced ingredients. ◆ 130E Minden Road.
