The com­pounds in fra­grance are car­cino­genic or toxic and can even have as much as 4,000 sep­a­rate in­gre­di­ents, mostly syn­thetic. Health ef­fects: Headaches, dizzi­ness, rashes, skin dis­col­oration, vi­o­lent cough­ing and vom­it­ing, al­ler­gic skin re­ac­tion, and can even af­fect the cen­tral ner­vous sys­tem that leads to de­pres­sion, hy­per­ac­tiv­ity, ir­ri­tabil­ity and other be­havioural changes. The al­ter­na­tive: Go for un­scented prod­ucts. If you can't do with­out “fra­grance”, add a nat­u­ral es­sen­tial oil.
