Dior’s Grand Ball has become quite the post-haute couture show tradition in Paris, and this year’s theme of “Surrealism” took things to new heights… and sizes. Like the most glamorous game of chess, kings, queens and knights of the fashion world zigzagged across a giant checkerboard in the gardens of Musée Rodin, as mad hatters and men in Magritte cloud outfits beckoned them to the soirée inside. Avant-garde masks were the night’s must-have accessory, as seen on Lucie de la Falaise and Sasha Pivovarova, while Monica Bellucci stole the scene in a fiery sheer number. Then there was dread-locked Willow Smith, who changed out of her couture ensemble into a blazer, pants and sneakers to perform an intimate set in unapologetically cool fashion.
