Cast one look at Miu Miu’s latest collection and you’d have never guessed that social media was the launch pad for Miuccia Prada’s creations. After all, the riotous melange of dishevelled bouffant hairdos, acid wash denim and exaggerated drop-shoulder blouson jackets brimmed with an attitude that was more ’50s and ’60s than this digital-fuelled millennium we live in. But Mrs Prada’s thought processes are never linear, and the idea that individualities are expressed through digital photo grids eventually led her and her team to the works of Karlheinz Weinberger. The photographer’s famous book, Swiss-Rebels, and its visual record of hardcore Elvis Presley worshippers shaped the collection’s medley of retro-looking coats, leather mini skirts, big-buckled belts and funky boots.
