LO­CAL FLAVOUR Archery is the na­tional sport of Bhutan, and the men are now see­ing more women chas­ing the dream to be­come a na­tional archer along­side them. The women’s tra­di­tional dress in­cludes a Kira, an an­kle-length dress ac­com­pa­nied by a light outer jacket known as a Tego. The Rachu, usu­ally wo­ven out of raw silk and em­broi­dered with rich pat­terns goes over the shoul­ders.

Taken in the serene sur­round­ings of the Amankora Para Lodge that is all but hid­den in a pine for­est, and has the most mag­nif­i­cent views of the jagged moun­tain peaks in Jigme Dorji Na­tional Park.

It was the first palace (1857) in Bhutan that was not de­signed as a fortress. It was also the sum­mer res­i­dence of the first and se­cond kings.
