EDITOR’S NOTE

Ever since 1991 (the year we launched the Her World Woman of the Year award) and 1999 (when we first introduced the Her World Young Woman Achiever award), we have been shining the spotlight on exceptional women. Not just because they do exceptional work, or do it exceptionally well.

It’s because these women have shown us that whatever their vocation, they do it with passion, love, grace and kindness. They give it their best. They find some way to always give back. Yet they never let what they do define them in restrictive ways.

This year, we honour Angelene Chan, CEO of DP Architects, as Her World Woman of the Year 2017, and filmmaker Kirsten Tan, whose award-winning movie Pop Aye is just the start of better things to come.

Above left: Angelene Chan, DP Architects’ rst woman CEO, has put Singapore on the international map with The Dubai Mall and buildings along London’s Royal Docks. Above right: How passionate is Kirsten Tan about her craft? She’s prepared to lose her one good eye (she’s legally blind in her other eye because of a genetic condition) to be able to keep making more lms now.
