A hotel for the hip and trendy in Germany.

Italian interior design and architecture firm Matteo Thun + Partners has set the benchmark with its first project — Intercity Hotel Braunschweig — which is the product of a partnership with established German hotelier Deutsche Hospitality Group.

Step into the lobby where vast full-height glass windows allow natural light to stream in, illuminating the open-plan space, giving it a warm, welcoming ambience.

Designed to resemble a living room, guests can lounge on exclusively designed armchairs by Matteo Thun + Partners as they await check-in.

Crate boxes that sit on black steel-framed shelves double as clever display spots for decor accessories like plants, lamps and books. The structure also helps separate the seating area to provide more privacy.

To accommodate larger groups, the “dining room space” has a large wood table. Spray-painted bicycle rims hang overhead as repurposed lighting fixtures for a quirky, industrial look. The bistro-cum-bar, too, has an eye-catching feature that’s composed of wallmounted light wood boxes of varying sizes, which serve both function and aesthetics.

Bold shades like fuchsia, orange and yellow add a pop of colour to the grey wall behind. The look is completed with a long, solid oak bar counter and high chairs that provide more seating options for hotel guests.

In line with the look of the common areas, the rooms in the hotel are just as trendy. Retreat into one of the 215sqf rooms, featuring wood floors, large windows, minimalist furniture, and a wall that’s cladded completely with the city’s map — which is spotted with tourist attractions and sightseeing spots — so you can easily plan your travel routes.

According to the management, the chic interiors and youthful vibe of Intercity Hotel Braunschweig will serve as reference for future outlets in Budapest and Dubai as well. THE HOTEL IS AT WILLY- BRANDT- PLATZ 3, 38102 BRAUNSCHWEIG, GERMANY. FOR MORE DETAILS, VISIT WWW. INTERCITYHOTEL. COM.

TOP A neutral colour palette, furniture with curvy silhouettes, and a mix of interesting decor accessories add to the casual ambience of the lobby.

LEFT The bar’s functional wall feature design is a great storage solution, too!

ABOVE The exposed bulb bedside lighting fixtures are subtle hints at the design intent to tie together industrial-style elements in the hotel.
