Near Field Communication
In 2004 Sony, Philips and Nokia founded the NFC Forum, which today has more than 160 members. The NFC Forum worked towards bringing near field communication technology to the fore. Today NFC builds upon RFID (radio frequency identification) systems by allowing two-way communication between endpoints. It includes standards such as ISO / IEC 14443 and FeliCa. The NFC Forum is still active at present promoting near field communications and certifying device compliance. NFC has been used in contactless payment systems in addition to mobile devices.
