The Original Phablet
The convergence of smartphones and tablets is not a recent trend. In fact, the first tablet-phone hybrid came into the market more than three years ago.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab was the first of the company’s mobile devices which integrated the voice call functionality of phones with tablets. It came with a 7-inch display, a 1GHz Cortex A8 processor and d 512MB of RAM.
Its unique proposition was however tainted by the Android 2.2 (Froyo) operating system. Developed for use on smartphones, the user r interface felt and looked awkward on the larger display of the Galaxy Tab. In addition, Android apps were not optimized for use on larger screens at that time. This resulted in an inferior tablet experience.
