HWM (Singapore) - - Ed’s Note - David Chieng EDITOR

I’m no big fan of Kanye West (so sue me), but his sampling of Daft Punk’s “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” in the single “Stronger” has been somewhat of an anthem for me this year, seeing heavy rotation in my Spotify playlists during my daily drives to and from the office.

That song came to mind when the team came together to conceptualize what would become the January issue of HWM, featuring front and center a massive 25-page article detailing how one can possibly hack their lives for the better, empowered by the technologies, gadgets and apps that we’ve all come to take for granted. After all, that smartphone can be used for more than surfing the internet, FaceTime chats with your pet, or for old-fashioned phone calls. Similarly, there’s never been a better time than now to take advantage of all that technology has to offer when it comes to the simple acts of self-improvement, whether starting the new year in a fitter way of life, growing your worldview by reading more, or taking steps towards actually achieving inbox-zero, the bane of every desk-bound office worker today.

That said, improving HWM and the stories we bring you every month will continue to be a major focus in the coming months. If you haven’t already noticed, we’ve started to shift away from covering just consumer electronics, and dipping our toes into technology in general, and exploring how these technologies impact and enhance our everyday lives. We’ll still be covering the usual spread of gadgets and gear that you’ve been reading about all this while, just that with a much bigger picture in mind.

Happy New Year, and may 2014 be epic for you and yours.
