Drivers and cyclists have a rocky relationship. The reasons for this are varied and we will not delve into them. However, Volvo has introduced a new technology last year called Cyclist Detection that could help. As part of its Pedestrian Detection System, this new feature uses radar and a high-definition camera to “see” ahead - the radar detects objects while the high-definition camera identifies them. Together, the system can identify both pedestrians and even cyclists. What’s more, the system will also help you apply full braking force if it senses that a collision is imminent. Volvo says that while this system might not be quick enough to completely avoid accidents, it can still drastically reduce the speeds at which these accidents occur at, thus hopefully reducing the severity.
