IGROW HAIR GROWTH SYSTEM
When your tresses begin losing volume, it could be the sign of androgenetic alopecia (thinning hair). That’s when the igrow Hair Growth System from Nu.reflections Medical Aesthetics, which employs Low-level Light Therapy (LLLT), comes in handy. Using laser or light energy below a specific energy threshold and within a specific wavelength (650-670 nm), LLLT is said to stimulate hair follicles at a cellular level, making ageing cells more “active”, thereby increasing their effectiveness in hair growth. Nu.reflections Medical Aesthetics is at #05-12 Regency House, 123 Penang Rd (tel: 6235-5333)
SL Clinic offers not one, but two ways to maintain your mane, especially if your hairline is receding or if your hair is thinning, particularly at the crown. Firstly, there’s Follicular Unit Extraction (or FUE). Boasting minimal down time, FUE is a hair transplant method in which individual follicular units are extracted directly from the hair restoration patient’s donor area, ideally one at a time. The second hair transplant method is Follicular Unit Transplantation (or FUT). This method involves the transplantation of thousands of grafts of naturally occurring units of one to four hairs in a single session, maximising the cosmetic impact of the procedure. FUT is favoured over older hair transplantation procedures that use large grafts.
SL Clinic is at #04-04, Wheelock Place, 501 Orchard Rd (tel: 6235-3246)
DERMA ROLLER THERAPY
This is an ongoing series of L’officiel X FAC3INC collabs in which John Lee, Peter Khor and Rick Yang – three makeup and hair gurus – share their fave tips, tricks and treats. This month, they introduce five ways to maintain your crowning glory.
Let’s get it out of the way: there are stainless steel micro needles involved in this. However, they are the main component of what makes Derma Roller Therapy (also known as Micro Needling) supposedly so efficacious. Moving the roller across the portions of the scalp with thinning hair creates fine punctures on the skin, a procedure said to cause the needles to enter micro channels between skin cells, boosting the absorption of topical scalp treatments. In addition, the tiny punctures supposedly signal to the body that it has been wounded. The body rushes collagen and elastin to the affected area to repair the scalp – this boost in collagen levels is said to result in a healthier scalp.

KEVIN MURPHY PLUMPING RANGE
A trio of ingredients take centre stage in the Kevin Murphy Plumping Range: The first is Lovely Hemsleya Root rich in Oleanolic Acid that is said to nourish and restore hair so that it is appears thicker and stronger. The second is parsley that contains Apigenin, which supposedly stimulates hair growth. The third is Biotinyl-ghk (a tripeptide comprising Biotin and the residue of three amino acids) found mostly in hair care products such as hair loss treatments and lash extenders. The polymers in this complex of ingredients are said to lengthen the growth phase (or Anagen phase) of hair, which will in turn shorten its falling phase (or Telogen phase). The aim of this range is to increase the number of hairs in their Anagen phase, thereby giving the appearance of thicker, fuller hair. Kevin Murphy products are available at Duo Hair Salon, #03-19 Mandarin Gallery (tel: 6635-8775). For more information, visit kevinmurphy.com.au.
