VAN CLEEF & ARPELS
Story: In the past, women who checked the time on a night out were considered impolite, so Van Cleef & Arpels created a secret watch just for them, one that has a dial hidden away under a piece of jewellery in order for time to be read discreetly and only by the wearer. Bracelet: 115 alluring, oval-cut Mozambique rubies which weigh a jaw-dropping total of 151.25 carats are arranged in three rows and interspersed, on a white gold frame, with round and square diamonds that accentuate the deep, red hues of the rubies. The timepiece took craftsmen 1,500 hours to make. Case: Hidden within the bracelet is the watch module, which slides a hundredth of a millimetre beneath the stones’ claws without ever touching them. Movement: Quartz.
