Breitling bolsters its Avenger line-up with two new members outfitted in high-tech cases.
Loaded with brawny masculinity, Breitling has always unapologetically stuck to its guns by delivering watches that are big on machismo. Its action- packed Avenger series encapsulates every macho superlative there is, so when two new recruits joins the team, they naturally raise the bar on toughness with their powerful physiques.
As far as appearances go, the Avenger Hurricane is one incredible hulk of a wristwatch, flaunting a standout 50mm frame that looks like it could hit with formidable force. The bulky beast is no mere meathead, however, as it’s constructed from an innovative proprietary polymer called “Breitlight”. This exclusive high-tech material is nearly six times lighter than steel, and over three times lighter than titanium. Beyond the considerable weight savings, it’s also anti- magnetic, hypoallergenic, and largely impervious to corrosion or scratches. Beneath all that textured composite material beats the Calibre B12, the latest iteration of Breitling’s base B01 manufacture movement, featuring a 24- hour military-style time display on top of chronograph functionality, 70- hour power reserve, and COSC certification. The “tacticool” demeanour commonly associated with the collection is achieved here in black with yellow accents, alongside a woven textile strap stitched atop a yellow rubber core to match.
While there’s no denying that overt manliness makes Breitling’s world, there are occasions that call for a stealthier approach. Touted as the first Avenger chronograph in titanium, the Avenger Bandit appeals as a brooding, darker companion without the all- black outlook. Rather, it’s distinguished by a matte grey complexion that begins with the ultralight and sturdy titanium case, satin- brushed to remove any unnecessary glinting, and follows through to the tone- on-tone counters on the dial. The rest of the watch is dedicated to signature design elements of the collection (which also appear on the Hurricane): aviation- inspired stencilled numerals, waffle-textured screw- down crown and pushers, and rider tabs on the unidirectional rotating bezel. Finally, the watch is secured with a brand new strap combining a rubber tread with an anthracite textile exterior for maximum comfort and resistance.
Experience the Avenger Hurricane and Avenger Bandit in Breitling’s aviation-themed exhibition at The Paragon from 9 to 19 June, alongside a cutting- edge flight simulator created by the brand for a taste of aeronautical adventure.
