The latest ambassadors joining the watch world
after watching the absolute brilliance that was Deadpool, hearing that the always-funny and always-charming Ryan Reynolds was now the face of Piaget actually made me chuckle.
Here was a man who spent his own time promoting and campaigning for an R-rated superhero film to be made then knocked it out of the park with toilet humour, vulgarities and a boatload of action. I’d like to imagine Reynolds cocking an eyebrow as he’s approached with the news, thinking, “I take it you all haven’t seen Deadpool or Van Wilder...” That being said, the fact that Reynolds is someone that himself seems approachable and all-round cool makes for great press with the brand. His natural love for timepieces makes it an obvious two-way partnership.
Another example of an organic relationship would be that of HYT Watches and Axl Rose. Yes, the vocalist for Guns N’ Roses for 31 years now was spotted wearing a HYT Skull Maori piece, right before the brand announced that he had joined as a “friend of the brand”. It also announced that Rose will soon be receiving his own limited edition HYT timepiece based on the Skull line (which we’ll assume has guns and roses on it).
Richard Mille sees a new face this year as well with the recent addition of Alexander Zverev to its stable of sports stars. The19year-old prodigy is widely considered by fans and critics as being a future star in the game, having earned the ITF’S World Junior Tennis Champion title at just 16. We can’t wait to watch Nadal and him face off to see who gets to be on the next Richard Mille watch. personalities.
