Situated at the Swiss-germany-france tripoint, Basel is famous as a host of watch and art fairs, the best known being Baselworld Watch and Jewellery Fair and Art Basel. The former is the most important trade event in the watch industry with a history of 100 years (2017 marks its centenary). Over 2,100 exhibitors come together for 10 days to display their wares each year, and billions of Francs are signed in contracts between watchmakers and retailers. Material suppliers also come to negotiate deals with watch manufactures big and small. Baselworld takes place around March/april and usually makes one weekend accessible to the public, so you can head in to see the latest in the world of watchmaking.
