On Point, In Tune & In the Spirit
These NAC Patron of the Arts awardees are putting their money where their heart is
The numbers are encouraging; according to the National Arts Council (NAC), last year, 301 patrons gave to the arts, among them 104 were organizations, and 197 individuals. Together, they contributed S$51.6 million to boost Singapore’s arts scene, of which S$37.1 million were in cash, and S$14.5 million in-kind. The year also saw the addition of 80 new arts patrons from across the board. “Private arts patronage plays an important role in enriching lives and connecting communities, adding immense value to our society,” says Mrs. Rosa Daniel, Chief Executive Officer of the National Arts Council, in a statement. “Every donation is much appreciated as it adds towards realizing a world filled with the arts.” Arts philanthropy in 2017 saw patrons supporting initiatives to cultivate young audience appreciation and increase accessibility to the arts, reaffirming a collective awareness in the community of the need to develop Singapore’s arts ecosystem holistically. In recognition of their generosity and commitment, the art patrons were given awards by the NAC at a gala event held earlier this year.
