The product of four years of extensive research and development, the Radiomir 1940 Minute Repeater Carillon Tourbillon GMT from Officine Panerai is a work of horological art. Fitted with three hammers instead of two, the red gold timepiece’s repeater mechanism allows for the combination of three different chimes (hence creating a melody when activated). It sounds the hours, 10 minutes (rather than the more common quarter hours) and minutes. Interestingly, the repeater function can be activated for both the local time and second time zone, which is indicated via a central hand on the dial and a day and night indicator at three o’clock. The ticker’s skeletonised P.2005/MR calibre also comes armed with a tourbillon that makes one rotation every 30 seconds, effectively compensating for any gravitational changes and increasing timekeeping accuracy.
