The star of Christie’s Quentin Blake: A Retrospective; Forty Years of Alternative Versions sale, this watercolour and pencil piece achieved a world auction record. The illustration - which features three characters from Roald Dahl’s 1964 children’s novel, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory - was produced by Blake in 2016 for the Roald Dahl Centenary Portraits project to celebrate 100 years since the author’s birth. Proceeds from Christie’s auction went towards the House of Illustration, Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity and Survival International. www.christies.com
