A Guide to Glassware
Glassware is complex, but generally speaking, it is designed to help wines breathe, to express its aromas more thoroughly. Heftier styles of wine require more breathing space. Most whites are drunk young and require smaller glassware, while dessert wines are well-aged and sweet by nature, thus served in smaller tasting glasses. Red wine glassware is the most complex, with various regions or types of wines being associated with particular glass shapes. Crystalware is ideal, both for its sonorous charm when toasting and because it allows the drinker to appreciate the claret of wine.
