We are always on the hunt for the perfect pair of everyday running shoes, especially when it comes to training for longer distances to smash our tness goals. For that, comfort is essential, and so is the cushioning ability and how light they are, so that they don’t weigh us down with every stride.

Ticking all the right boxes are the new performance running shoes, Skechers GoRun Ride 7. As soon as we slipped our feet in with the aid of pull tabs at the heel, we were in for a smooth ride. The knit upper gives a friendly hug to the feet, wrapping around them comfortably like a sturdy pair of socks, while maintaining a fair amount of exibility. There was no need to “break in our new shoes” because the practically seamless design left us without a trace of abrasion after the rst wear. Compared to round laces, the at ones that come with these shoes stayed secure the whole time, and helped to spread the pressure evenly atop the foot.

EFFECTIVE CUSHIONING As we pounded the pavements on outdoor runs, the shoe’s plush cushioning did a great job in softening the impact upon landing on hard concrete and asphalt roads, protecting our knees and joints throughout. The super responsive Flight Gen cushioning kept its promise on optimal rebound, propelling us forward and returning energy back as we moved ahead.

GREAT TRACTION One of our greatest fears is falling and injuring ourselves on slippery pavements – a highly possible occurrence given our tropical climate with abundant rainfall. When we encountered wet paths after a heavy storm twice, the rubber outsoles afforded good grip on both occasions, so there was zero fear for a slip-and-fall situation.

SLEEK FORM The trade- off for wellcushioned shoes is often a chunky and heavy body, which affects the ef ciency of your strides and ultimately your running performance. The GoRun Ride 7, however, maintains a sleek and ultralightweight form (207g for a women’s size 7), making it all the more an attractive pick.

MID-FOOT STRIKE ZONES With a lighter load at our feet, we were able to open up our strides easily in order to run farther and faster. Having a strike zone that encourages the wearer to land mid-foot also helped us achieve quicker steps. To top it off, the fact that we used noticeably less energy to cover the same distance gave us a great boost in confidence to keep going.

By the end of a 5km journey, we were dripping in sweat but our feet remained dry and fresh, thanks to the breathability of the shoe’s knit material. The reflective details add a layer of safety for night runners.

On days when you dread running, these well-rounded shoes will break all inertia and have you hitting the ground in no time.

The Skechers GoRun Ride 7 ($139) is available in two colours – black/white and navy/purple – at Skechers concept stores. For more information, visit www.skechers.com.sg.
