SAGGING-SKIN WOES BEGONE
Looking for quick skin-tightening and face- and body-contouring from top to toe? Dr Kelvin Chua of SL Clinic says the latest version of Thermage can deliver all this better than previous incarnations and with less pain.
Thermage – a treatment that uses a non- invasive device to emit radiofrequency pulses to tighten collagen in the skin and generate fresh collagen – is said to soften wrinkles and tighten sagging skin. It has been evolving since it was launched in 1955 and the latest version, Thermage Total Tip CPT, decreases potential pain and delivers faster results, says Dr Kelvin Chua of SL Clinic.
HOW MUCH PAIN MIGHT I FEEL WITH THIS LATEST VERSION?
The latest version of the treatment reduces the potential for pain in two ways: It heats and cools skin more uniformly for more consistent sensations, and the device has a new tip that vibrates, providing a distraction. At the same time, numbing cream may be used. There may be slight redness afterwards – just like with previous versions – but this should be fairly easy to conceal with makeup.
DOES IT GIVE BETTER RESULTS?
Because the new tip heats skin more uniformly, it offers greater comfort and can treat a larger area with each pulse. You’ll see improved results across the board, including softening of wrinkles around the eyes, mouth, forehead and neck, increased collagen contraction and remodelling.
MUST I STILL WAIT TO SEE RESULTS?
As before, you’ll see gradual results over time, peaking about three months after the treatment. But unlike before, you could also see immediate benefits. Some patients have noticed a more defined jawline, improved contouring of the cheeks and reduced nasolabial folds straight after treatment. The results are still subtle enough for you to be sure friends, family and colleagues won’t be asking if you’ve “had something done”.
WHAT PARTS OF THE BODY CAN BE TREATED WITH IT?
The same device tip can be used all over the face ( excluding the eyelids) and body. That means you can also treat a sagging tummy, butt and thighs.
HOW LONG DOES A SESSION TAKE?
It depends on the size of the area treated, but it’s usually around 30 to 45 minutes for each body part. If you’re using a numbing cream, add about an hour for it to take effect before you begin treatment.
