THE VINTAGE ROOM
37 Duxton Hill, tel: 6690-7565. Open Tue-Thur, 5pm-midnight; Fri, 3pm-1am; Sat, 5pm-1am.
Mismatched furniture, mirrors and dim lighting lend this French gastrobar an eclectic, somewhat mysterious, vibe. The couches are perfect for intimate conversations over cocktails and platters of cold cuts and tartines (open-faced sandwiches).
The “Vintage” Monsieur ($18) packs creamy bechamel, Emmental cheese and ham in between black olive ciabatta toast, topped with even more Emmental – it can feed two.
The Mix of Smoked Fishes and Marinated Seafood ($38) with bread and capers is an aquatic spin on cold cuts, showcasing smoked salmon, trout, haddock, herring and anchovies, instead of the usual cured meats.
The Mojito “V” Style ($14) is a well-balanced blend of spiced rum, brown sugar, lime, strawberry and a hint of ginger liqueur.
