15 Duxton Hill, tel: 6226-3938. Open Tue-Sun, 5pm to midnight.
It’s hard to miss this boisterous taqueria – a Mexican restaurant specialising in tacos – which is usually packed by 7pm. The menu includes quesadillas, tostaditas (mini tortillas with toppings), and large mains like pork ribs for sharing. Knock back your nachos with one of their mezcals, a strong tequila-like drink made from agave, a spiny Mexican plant. ORDER THESE:
Zingy and refreshing, the Ceviche de Camarones y Pulpo ($20) with diced prawns and octopus will get your appetite raring to go.
The Taco de Chorizo Con Res ($10), loaded with moreish chorizo and braised beef brisket, was our favourite.
The Baja Fish Taco ($11) features beer-battered red snapper and mango salsa laced with a fiery chipotle mayo sauce. Eat it quickly as the soft corn tortilla gets soggy fast.
Don’t leave without trying the Pastel de Elote Azul ($14), a crunchy, crumbly blue corn cake that’s finished off in a pan and served with mezcal cream, fresh berries and a drizzle of sweet agave nectar.
