CLEANING PROWESS Superb. It picked up all the coffee powder in its path. It doesn’t have swirling brushes to sweep out dust from corners and furniture legs, but the advantage is that it sucks up crumbs instead of brushing them around.

SENSITIVITY TO OBSTACLES It veered away from pieces of furniture, bumping into them only occasionally.

EASE OF USE It lost points for convenience – there’s no remote control, so I had to bend down to reach the buttons on the appliance to navigate the menu. Plus, it can’t be directed to clean specific spots, unlike the rest. But its dust bin is easily removed by lifting a top cover.

NOISE The loudest in the lineup, this roared like a truck. It drowned out the TV set and I couldn’t talk on the phone while it was in the room. Best to leave it home alone to clean.

VERDICT The most powerful machine for the most spotless clean-up, if you don’t mind the racket and the lack of a remote control.
