BANH MI 888
#B1-06 United Square, tel: 6354-3858. Open daily, 10am-9pm Simple and nondescript, this 30-seater eatery is a pit stop for an MSG- and preservativefree Vietnamese meal with most ingredients imported from Vietnam.
THE MENU Just 12 items – four sandwiches, three noodle dishes, chicken rice and three spring rolls – with lots of veggies in every dish. We’re looking forward to the pho, which they will soon add to their menu.
• The dish that will draw us back again and again: the comforting Chicken Glass Noodles ($6). The clear chicken soup is homely, with Thai basil leaves that add a refreshing minty flavour. Add the vinegar-chilli it comes with to give the soup a tangy kick . • For a filling main, there’s Noodles with Spring Roll and Grilled Chicken ($6.60), which is more of a salad of lettuce, cucumber, pickled radish, carrots and rice vermicelli, served with a tangysweet dressing. • The appetising Fresh Spring Rolls ($5.60 for two) bundles prawns and pickles with Vietnamese vermicelli that’s finer, firmer and smoother than our local version.
