PRIVATE INTEGRATED SHIELD PLAN A Medisave-approved insurance plan that gives you additional coverage when you opt for Class A and B1 wards in public hospitals, or private hospitalisation. It doesn’t replace Medishield, but rather sits on top of it, extending the hospital coverage offered so that you can choose a private hospital and still pay less.

Schemes are operated by a number of different insurers, most of which will issue a letter of guarantee before your procedure. This assures the hospital on your behalf that you have the necessary insurance to cover your stay and so reduces your upfront costs. There are a number of different options for private integrated shield plans. The most comprehensive involves adding a rider to cover the deductible and co-insurance portions of your bill, which can even make your final payment zero.

RIDER This is optional to the private integrated shield plan. It is designed to give added financial protection at lower cost.

DEDUCTIBLE The initial amount you need to pay yourself for claims made in a year, before your insurance kicks in.

CO-INSURANCE The amount you need to co-pay or share after you pay the deductible, usually expressed as a percentage.

CHECK WITH YOUR INSURER NOW To fully lower out-ofpocket costs to zero, the patient also needs to buy a cash rider on top of the private integrated shield plan. Insurance coverage varies with plan types, so check with your insurer for more details.
