CORNERSTONE

Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park, 1380 Ang Mo Kio Ave 1, tel: 6554-7230. Open Tue-Fri, noon to 10.30pm; Sat-Sun, 10am-10.45pm. “My parents are nature lovers. So this cafe, nestled in Bishan Park with floor-to-ceiling glass walls, appeals to them. They like dining in natural sunlight while looking out to greenery and people walking by. There’s also alfresco seating, which they usually choose if they’re having dinner there.

The restaurant is dog- and child-friendly too, with ample play areas for both. It’s a great place for your entire family to hang out at. I highly recommend their Earl Grey Jivara for dessert – it’s simply divine!” – Cindy Tan, 40, bank manager

BUMBU RESTAURANT

44 Kandahar Street, tel: 6392-8628. Open Tue-Sun, 11am-3pm, 6-10pm. “I love this restaurant for its interesting variety of Thai and Indonesian cuisine – must-tries include the century egg salad, tauhu telor, coffee chicken and fried mee sua. The food is reasonably priced too – dinner usually averages $20 to $25 a person, including desserts and drinks.

It’s my go-to venue for birthday celebrations – my sons and I adore the quaint shophouse the restaurant’s tucked in. Its decor of Peranakan antiques and signs reminds me of Singapore in the 1980s.” – Elsie Teo, 62, homemaker

WAH LOK CANTONESE RESTAURANT

Level 2 Carlton Hotel, 76 Bras Basah Road, tel: 6311-8188. Open Mon-Sat, 11.30am2.30pm, 6.30-10.30pm; Sun and public holidays, 11am-2.30pm, 6.30-10.30pm. “I love the delicious dim sum here – it’s as authentic as what you find in good Hong Kong restaurants. Think classic items like baked mini egg tarts, steamed glutinous rice and siew mai. I especially love their carrot cake – it's light and not oily, so I don’t feel unhealthy eating it.

I also like the modern yet cosy atmosphere, and the excellent and attentive service. My family and I come here often as we never tire of the chef’s new creations, which have been consistently good.” – Amy Soh, 60, homemaker

Tasty dim sum served in the cosiest of settings – something not to be missed!
