Slick It On

Liq­uid lip­sticks give you in­tense colour with juicy gloss – mi­nus the feath­er­ing and need for touch-ups. SI­MONE WU tries five.

1 Shi­seido Lac­quer Rouge, $43

US­ING IT: Each dip into the tube picks up a small amount, so you never end up with more than you need. The lip­stick glided on smoothly, leav­ing a non-sticky film. THE EF­FECT: One swipe gave e aver­age colour pay-off that was slightly patchy. But it left ft a nice glossy fin­ish. It didn’t bleed leed into my lip lines, stay­ing put t for five hours, and com­ing off just slightly af­ter meals and drinks. inks. I loved how my lips felt hy­drated ydrated even af­ter I’d re­moved the lip­stick.

2 Stila Stay All Day Liq­uid Lip­stick, $31

US­ING IT: The paraben-free for­mula felt a bit slip­pery as I ap­plied it – I think I needed more prac­tice to make it ef­fort­less. Once it went on, though, it felt feather-light. THE EF­FECT: One swipe gave full-cov­er­age, bold lip colour – the best pay-off of the lot. I loved how the prod­uct stayed put for up to eight hours. How­ever, my puck­ers felt a bit drier than when I used the other liq­uid lip­sticks. It stained my lips and was not easy to re­move.

3 Make Up For Ever Aqua Rouge, $40 US­ING IT: One end gives you a coloured stain, while the other of­fers a clear gloss. The tube has a stan­dard ap­pli­ca­tor for the colour and a brush for the gloss, which took me some time to ap­ply. THE EF­FECT: The stain gave a matte fin­ish that left my lips dry. But ap­ply­ing the gloss made my lips feel more com­fort­able and my lip lines, less ob­vi­ous. The gloss came off but the colour didn’t budge, not even af­ter food and drinks. I had to scrub this off – a lot of ef­fort! 4 Este Es­tee Lauder Pure Colo Color High In­ten­sity Lip Lac­quer, $38 US­ING IT: It It’s thicker and creamier tha than the rest, giv­ing you more con­trol when you ap­ply it. Just one dip picked up the right amount for the whol whole lip. THTHE EF­FECT: It gave ex­cel­lent colour c pay-off and a nice glossy fin­ish that hid my lip lines. How­ever, it felt a tad sticky and bled slightly. The colour faded even­tu­ally but it was still pretty long-wear­ing, last­ing five to six hours. I liked how mois­turised my lips felt, and how the lip­stick did didn’t leave a stain. 5 Yves S Saint Lau­rent Beaute R Rouge Pur Coutur Cou­ture Ver­nis a Levres Glossy Stain, Sta $48 US­ING ITIT: The paraben-free for­mula has the light­est tex­ture and n needs min­i­mal ef­fort to app ap­ply. The ap­pli­ca­tor has a sla slanted tip – per­fect for tricky outer lip cor­ners and the Cu­pid’s bow. THE EF­FECT: It had ad­e­quate colour pay-off and a sub­tle glossy fin­ish. Al­though my lips felt some­what dry, they didn’t look dry. The gloss dis­ap­peared af­ter a few drinks. The colour faded af­ter a few hours but left a stain that lasted up to six hours, and was easy to re­move.
