applied to the treatment area. The botulinum toxin is then injected using a very fine needle, explains Dr Shiau Ee Leng, medical director of CSK Laser Aesthetic Clinic.
You can have different areas of your face treated in one clinic visit, adds Dr Wendy Chuah, medical doctor at Dermacare Aesthetic and Laser Clinic. How much botulinum toxin is used will depend on your muscle structure and how severe your wrinkles are.
You Can Start at Any Age
There is no ideal age to start botulinum toxin treatments – you can do it once you have visible expression lines and wrinkles, says Dr Shiau. It can smooth crow’s feet, fine lines around the eyes, forehead wrinkles, frown lines and lines on the neck. It can also be used to create a dimple on the chin, and lift the eyebrows. Botulinum toxin can even be injected into the muscles we use for chewing, along the jaw line, to make the face look slimmer, says Dr Ramirez. It can be employed to manage excessive sweating, muscle spasms, muscle stiffness and chronic migraine too.
Dr Chuah adds that it has also been used to treat muscular conditions in children, such as blepharospasm, an abnormal twitching of the eyelid.
