VERDICT “It’s comfortable to use on the iPad but I missed the touch of using pen on paper.”
handwritten all your idea of having this stylus If you like the in a digital notebook, notes and sketches may be for you.
WHAT IT IS The Adonit Jot Script Evernote Edition Stylus is like a pen for Apple devices. Powered by an AAA battery, it can be used to jot down notes at meetings, put together your grocery list, or sketch on note-taking and drawing applications like Penultimate (free), Memo (free), Paper by Fiftythree (free), Noteshelf ($6.98), and Zoomnotes ($6.98). These notes and drawings can then be saved and edited via the apps. However, it doesn’t allow you to write text messages and e-mails on your device.
Although it’s compatible with all iOS devices, don’t bother using it with the iPhone – the screen is too small to accommodate handwritten notes, unless it’s for your kids to practise writing Chinese characters. It paired easily to my iPad via Bluetooth – I only needed to press the power button on the stylus for two seconds to sync them.
WRITING WITH IT Writing was smooth, and the stylus was especially good at recording cursive handwriting. Because the nib was rather thick, it helped that I could choose the pen-width mode in the apps to write more neatly. But some strokes occasionally didn’t register, and there was a lag on the tablet in recording my handwriting.
I could easily grip the ribbed edges around the aluminium barrel, and as the stylus was light, I was able to take notes with it comfortably for a half-hour meeting. Apps like Penultimate and Noteshelf let me write with the side of my hand resting on the tablet, without leaving an on-screen trail.
With my notes and drawings all digitised in an app, I didn’t have to worry about multiple notebooks or losing that scrap of paper I’d scribbled on. But I wish it came in a pocket that could be attached to the tablet to make it more convenient to tote around.
