Happy 2015!

Simply Her (Singapore) - - Hello! -

We’re now halfway through the decade, imagine that. Does this inspire you to make bigger, more significant New Year’s resolutions than usual? Or are you quite happy with just a few simple goals?

I belong to the latter category. It’s been years since I made any “official” resolutions. I have a tendency to forget I made them, or declare such unattainable ones that they inevitably die a natural death.

In place of stating my “new year, new me” intentions to the world, I now choose just one small fix-it that would make me a better person. It’s usually the kind of thing I need to practise getting right, day after day.

One year, it dawned on me how much debt I had chalked up, simply from owing colleagues for drinks and treats they’d buy in for me while I worked through lunch, or plain forgetting to fork out my share of the meal at gatherings with friends. No one ever accused me of being a freeloader, but I felt terrible for being so inconsiderate.

I began making it a point to always have enough cash with me – in my wallet and at home. I started carrying my chequebook in my handbag. I try to pay up right away, or at group meals, I settle the bill first so everyone owes me money instead.

Whether you’re a traditionalist who must have a list of resolutions for the year, or a modernist like me, you’ll find there’s something in our January issue for everyone.

Turn to page 44 for our Change It Up package: There’s great expert advice on how to change the way you think, how to live healthier, how to change your job attitude and how to improve your relationships.

A new year also calls for new clothes (yes, I’ll take any excuse to shop), and we’ve lined up five work wardrobe classics to take you through 2015 and beyond (pg 18). Looking for a new hairstyle? We convinced seven readers to take the plunge with a hair makeover (pg 32).

For a little fun, turn to page 52 for our working mum’s horoscope guide for an outlook on your well-being, marriage, work and finances. You may also want to take advantage of the many long weekends this year – see where the new It family destinations are (pg 90). The Simply Her team wishes one and all a fabulous new year!
