Space Out

One of the features of the shophouse is the courtyard. Often halfway between the front and back of the space, it’s where a skylight right above allows light into the space. This helps to brighten the space, where windows are often found only at the front and back of the property. Here is a casual meeting space surrounded by glass panels and doors. The greenery on the vertical wall softens and brings texture and colour to the neutral colours here. By capitalising and building upon these features, Department of Design has crafted an interesting juxtaposition of sleek design ideas within the rich textures of the space. Liberal use of glass panels throughout encourages natural light to flow from one space to another. The office also feels large and spacious, so one feels good while being hard at work all day.

CLOCKWISE FROM TOP LEFT A meeting space next to the green wall allows for casual discussions; The airwell allows plenty of natural light to fill the office during the day; The neutral colour theme enhances the vibrant colours of the frangipani tree as well as the green roof tiles in the courtyard
