GO WITH THE FLOW
Style and functionality can go hand-in-hand, as DESIGN WORX shows with the crafting of this welcoming sanctuary that is both elegant and functional
AMONG THE MULTITUDE OF LUXURY APARTMENTS
in The Interlace, Designworx has crafted a stunning abode with welcoming spaces and in-vogue details. A couple based overseas, who regularly visit their children in Singapore, requested for this 2,500sqft family apartment to be designed with easy maintenance as the priority. Contrary to popular belief, Designworx’s design director Terri Tan feels that hasslefree upkeep does not always necessitate a minimalistic interior. “We believe in creating an engaging and personalised interior for each of our projects. As a boutique consultancy, our team excels in creating an experience that brings together architectural expertise and aesthetic distinction,” shares Tan, whose firm has clinched several Asia Pacific Property Awards over the years in the residential, office and hotel categories. She was particularly elated to receive the Best of Hotel Interior award for Venue Hotel for 2014/2015, and was honoured to have this feather in the firm’s cap. The design practice has also been featured in Tatler Homes’ Best of Singapore list since 2011.
Harmonious Living
Besides the preference for functional style, the client wished to allocate a prayer space next to the entrance of the home. Tan fulfilled this by creating a carpeted platform for an altar that would complement the home’s living and dining spaces. A see-through timber screen was introduced to separate the foyer from the prayer space. The screen incorporated design elements that flowed seamlessly with the feature wall in the dining area, to which Tan had given a matching and lively geometric pattern. These are paired with textured wallpaper and tinted mirrors which continue along the walls and ceiling of this home.
Lap of Luxury
With the objective of concocting four “fabulous and fuss-free” bedrooms in mind, Tan decorated the master bedroom with ef fects paint and mouldings that would endow a classic yet contemporar y aesthetic. The design director explored various approaches toward this room together with the client, which involved anchoring its overall of f-white colour palette with specially-designed glossy ebony side tables, taupe wall covering as well as cur tains, to recreate the welcoming feel of a luxur y hotel.
Contemporary Elegance
Tan opted to break away from feminine norms with the bedroom of the couple’s daughter. Keeping its surrounding fixtures neutral, she shunned blush pink and pastels; instead, she opted for bronze details, and a monochromatic palette. She also employed a deep lavender finish on the wall and an array of floral bed cushions to express its dweller’s personality. The resulting space is elegant yet exudes a grace that is distinctly feminine.
Personalised Details
As for the other two bedrooms that belong to the couple’s sons, these spaces were endowed with a dark grey and a sepia palette respectively. Before the commencement of the apartment’s overhaul, the younger brother had requested for adequate space to display his guitars and anime figurines. The sepia tones that now swathe his room gently complement the guitars that adorn its walls and the anime figurines that embellish its display shelves.
