Vintage pilot watches hold a positively romantic attraction for many men. Their rugged, worn appearance, ashen dials and fluted retro crowns hark back to the golden age of aviation. Given its long history in pilot’s watches, it was no surprise to see Zenith present a new one at Baselworld. This came in the form of the Zenith Heritage Pilot Café Racer, which is unapologetically vintage. Breguet likewise presented a new pilot’s watch, the Type XXI 3817. The timepiece recalls the Type XX pilot watch the brand created for the French army in the 1950s. It preserves many of the original’s aesthetics, but upgrades the movement with a chronograph featuring a flyback function.
