The latest entrant to the universe of Van Cleef & Arpels, Bouton d’or, derives inspiration from the archives of the maison, in particular a technique called the “paillette”, which was used in the 1930s. Essentially, a concave or convex plate of mother-of-pearl, carnelian, onyx or chrysoprase is punctuated by a diamond stud, and these “buttons” are then stringed together by the masterful Mains d’or at Van Cleef & Arpels to culminate in a three-dimensional suite.
