FAN OF THE BRAND: Mega Ong, businessman, IT industry FAVOURITE NOVELTY: Hybris Artistica Mysterieuse in pink gold, price upon request
Mega Ong and his wife first became fans of Jaeger-LeCoultre in 2002, when he bought the latter a Reverso Gran’Sport. The businessman’s tastes tend towards the eclectic – his favourite Jaeger-LeCoultre timekeeper is the brand’s spherical, crystal-encased Atmos clock done in collaboration with Hermes. His pick for 2017, the Hybris Artistica Mysterieuse, is just as enchanting.
Instead of hands, this watch has a mother-of-pearl lattice disc that rotates and indicates the hour via the position of a flying tourbillon (a discreet arrow on the inner ring points to the minutes). A shimmering aventurine dial shines through the cutouts. Pointing out details such as the harmonious yet asymmetrical latticework and aventurine accents on the lugs, caseband and rotor, Ong says of the watch: “It’s very eye-catching and its refined details showcase the artistry of the craftsperson.”
Despite its out-of-this-world aesthetics, this pink gold watch has a relatively wearable size of 42mm, which is why Ong can imagine sporting this showstopper at “blacktie events and boardroom meetings”. Wherever the owners of this fivepiece limited edition choose to wear this timepiece to, we definitely agree with Ong that it “will remain with its collector for a long time”.
