INTELLIGENT ATHLETE

THE ALL-NEW BMW 5 SERIES IS AN ACCOMPLISHED PERFORMER BECAUSE IT POSSESSES BOTH BRAWN AND BRAINS.

The most successful athletes are the ones who are both physically and mentally the fittest.

Having the strongest and most flexible body alone does not guarantee victory over rivals. An athlete must not only believe that he can win – he must also picture the win and convince himself of this inevitability. In other words, he must use his mental energies to overcome limitations such as pain, physical and mental fatigue.

Like a winning athlete, the all-new BMW 5 Series is built to perform. Its body is lighter (by 100kg, no less) and stronger, and its engine (heart) is more powerful than before. But the new BMW 5 Series isn’t just brawny. It’s very brainy, too.

Inside, the new BMW 5 Series has a driver-centric cockpit that can be equipped with a suite of advanced features designed to seamlessly assist the driver.

Lane Keeping Assistant, for instance, helps ensure that the BMW 5 Series does not drift into other lanes by warning the driver that the car is veering into another lane through steering wheel vibrations. If necessary, corrective steering inputs will be applied to prevent collisions.

Road trips are fun, but they are also tiring. To reduce driver fatigue, drivers can specify Active Cruise Control (ACC), which works in conjunction with the Steering and Lane Control Assistant.

These functions essentially take over driving duties by maintaining a set speed and distance from the vehicle in front of the BMW 5 Series. If needed, it can bring the car to a full stop before starting up again, if a traffic jam is encountered. Needless to say, ACC also keeps the BMW 5 Series within a lane, thereby increasing safety for all on board. Also enhancing safety are the four cameras and surround ultrasound sensors. Working together, they provide a 3D view of the area around the BMW 5 Series, which gives the driver an advantage in tight carparks. But what happens when a carpark space is wide enough for the BMW 5 Series, but too tight for the driver to open the door?

That’s when the optional Remote Control Parking system comes in. Standard on the BMW 540i (optional on all other variants), the driver can use the BMW display key to move the car in and out of the carpark space with a swipe of the finger. It sure beats wasting time circling the carpark in search of a larger space.

As an intelligent athlete, the new BMW 5 Series already out-drives its rivals. But with these cool optional features, it out-thinks them, too.

LIKE A WINNING ATHLETE, THE ALL-NEW BMW 5 SERIES IS BUILT TO PERFORM.

Remote Parking is a cool function that enables the BMW 5 Series driver to park the car in tight spaces.
