Torque (Singapore) - - NEWS -

NICK TAN Â Hi Torque magazine. I read Edric’s article on family fun with MPVs [2018 August issue’s column Ed Lib] and share the same sentiments with him – that there are no sporty MPVs available. The only choice is to go for an SUV, but most SUVs have a high suspension setup for off-roading. The only sporty MPV in the past was the Subaru Exiga, which has a turbo 2-litre engine and can seat seven people. Due to family commitments, I had to trade my Honda Accord Euro R for an MPV. I tried and tested many cars over a period of six months, and finally bought a seven-seater BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer with M Sport package. It has 10mm-lower M suspension along with a thick M steering wheel. I ordered my 216d Gran Tourer with the M colour of Estoril Blue, complete with an M bodykit.

This is the best-handling MPV I can find with enough torque, thanks to the 1.5-litre turbo-diesel motor. My only wish is for BMW to bring in the 2-litre 220d model, which has 400Nm of torque. Wouldn’t it great if there was a VW GTI MPV or a BMW M Performance Gran Tourer?
