Back in 1938, Lawry’s The Prime started serv­ing fine-din­ing Amer­i­can cui­sine in Los An­ge­les and in­stantly gained recog­ni­tion. But it wasn’t un­til 1999 that Lawry’s reached Sin­ga­pore’s Paragon shop­ping mall and later in 2010, re­lo­cated to its cur­rent site— Man­darin Gallery.

Lawry’s has been known for its con­sis­tent and hearty Amer­i­can dishes like their sig­na­ture slow-roasted prime beef (from $70 for 130g) and their fa­mous spin­ning bowl salad ($15). But newly ap­pointed ex­ec­u­tive chef Sher­win Sim in­jects some Ja­panese flavours to the menu. Start with the ap­pe­tizer sam­pler

($39) fea­tur­ing a trio of small bites: crispy crab cake; foie gras served with Lawry’s spe­cial sauce; or try the beef br­uschetta made with Lawry’s slow-roasted prime beef.

For mains, try the grilled New Zealand King sal­mon ($63) which is grilled in kabayaki sauce then served atop a bed of mush­room risotto, baby car­rots and as­para­gus. Or if you’d pre­fer red meat aside from Lawry’s sig­na­ture beef, go for the truf­fle rose­mary crusted lamb ($73), which comes served with mush­room mint jelly, baby car­rot puree and po­lenta.

End with Lawry’s de­lec­ta­ble desserts the likes of triple crunchy choco­late layer cake ($15) and tiramisu ($15). —CSJ
