Audemars Piguet mounts up for charity
Audemars Piguet plays Elephant Polo
The King’s Cup Elephant Polo Tournament has been organised by Anantara Hotels, Resorts & Spas since 2001, and has become one of the largest charitable events in Thailand. This year, for its 14th edition, the tournament returned to Bangkok for the second time, with Audemars Piguet as leading sponsor. The tournament attracted the participation of 10 teams from across the world, and after the qualifying matches on 12 March, a Bbq-style charity auction dinner was held right on the pitch. Audemars Piguet offered a Royal Oak Offshore Chronograph for auction, which fetched THB920,000, approximately $35,550.
The final match the following day was presided over by the King of Thailand’s Royal representative. The team from King Power Duty Free won the championship, with Rueang Chang in second position. The Audemars Piguet team also had a good showing, tying with Citi for third.
Conceived to benefit street elephants, funds raised by the tournament have also been donated to other projects in Thailand including children’s clinics and the conservation of wild elephants.
