Aude­mars Piguet mounts up for char­ity

Aude­mars Piguet plays Ele­phant Polo

The King’s Cup Ele­phant Polo Tour­na­ment has been or­gan­ised by Anan­tara Ho­tels, Re­sorts & Spas since 2001, and has be­come one of the largest char­i­ta­ble events in Thai­land. This year, for its 14th edi­tion, the tour­na­ment re­turned to Bangkok for the se­cond time, with Aude­mars Piguet as lead­ing spon­sor. The tour­na­ment at­tracted the par­tic­i­pa­tion of 10 teams from across the world, and af­ter the qual­i­fy­ing matches on 12 March, a Bbq-style char­ity auc­tion din­ner was held right on the pitch. Aude­mars Piguet of­fered a Royal Oak Off­shore Chronograph for auc­tion, which fetched THB920,000, ap­prox­i­mately $35,550.

The fi­nal match the fol­low­ing day was presided over by the King of Thai­land’s Royal rep­re­sen­ta­tive. The team from King Power Duty Free won the cham­pi­onship, with Rueang Chang in se­cond po­si­tion. The Aude­mars Piguet team also had a good show­ing, ty­ing with Citi for third.

Con­ceived to ben­e­fit street ele­phants, funds raised by the tour­na­ment have also been do­nated to other projects in Thai­land in­clud­ing chil­dren’s clin­ics and the con­ser­va­tion of wild ele­phants.
