FP Journe refreshes his classic Octa collection with larger dimensions for the Octa Divine

For a watchmaker known to pay no heed to industry trends and conventions, it looks like FP Journe has finally relented, at least where it comes to making larger versions of his best sellers to fulfil market demand. All formerly at 40mm, the Souveraine Chronomètre Optimum, Octa Quantième Perpétual, and Octa Lune have been resized to 42mm, and the latest timepiece to benefit from the master watchmaker’s largess is the Octa Divine.

Journe’s watchmaking philosophy has always been pretty much focused on these core basics: elegance, uncluttered, and perfectly legible. Irrespective of the function or complication of the watches he makes, all FP Journe watches exude the same uncompromising spirit. To make sure of that, Journe uses his own dial maker, which is why the aesthetics are always well balanced. The new Octa Divine is an excellent example of this unique watchmaking approach.

In a classic round case, the dial comprises a pristine white chapter containing the hour numerals and at its centre, a large aperture reveals the front of the rose gold movement held secure by an eccentric-shaped plate made of stainless steel. Here is where the watch’s key functions convene: the large date, power reserve display, moon phase display, and small seconds rotating disc. Inspect it closer and you will discover that the hour numerals are irregularly sized – for a touch of whimsy apparently – but the blued steel hands ensure that time is always legible.

Turn the watch over to the back, and the F.P. Journe Calibre 1300.3 manufactured in rose gold is on full display. With over five days of power reserve, it boasts a self-locking ball bearing system, which ensures that every movement, however slight, is utilised for the optimal winding of the watch.
