The Langham Place Hotel is now known as the Cordis, Hong Kong, and the first flagship hotel for the Cordis brand under the Langham Group following a round of refurbishments. The 42-storey hotel is conveniently located, with direct access to Mongkok MTR station and the Langham Place shopping mall as well as easy access to Tung Choi Street and Temple Street.
The name “Cordis” comes from the Latin word for “heart” and represents the core values of the hotel brand: tailored and warm service from the heart, and an intuitive service attitude that reflects the essence of hospitality, so visitors feel truly at home and have an unforgettable visit. During my recent stay, I felt the hotel had hit the mark.
Entering the lobby on Level Three, one is greeted by an impressive sculpture by artist Ju Ming, signalling the hotel’s aspirations as an art hotel. It is home to over 1,500 pieces of contemporary Chinese art valued at over HK$35 million (S$6.5 million).
The hotel offers 664 guest rooms in 19 variations, but I recommend that guests upgrade themselves to the VIP Club on Level 36. Club perks include a private check-in process, free ironing services and VIP treatment at the Chuan Spa. Especially enticing is the Club Lounge, which offers gourmet snacks and dishes and specialty drinks all day, perfect for those with hurried schedules.
Service from the heart was palpable in all kinds of ways. For instance, a smartphone is placed in each room for guests to make free IDD calls to countries such as Singapore, Australia, China, Britain and the United States. The phone also allows for free limitless Wi-Fi connectivity even outside of the hotel. I was also greeted with one surprise after another upon my return to the room each night: a glass of fruit juice, an eye mask, aromatherapy packets for a better night’s sleep... all sweet gestures that make the guest feels pampered.
If you have the time, pop into Ming Court, the hotel’s Cantonese restaurant that has received a Michelin-star rating for seven consecutive years; and the Chuan Spa, located on the top level of the hotel. The spa offers treatments based on traditional Chinese medicine principles that emphasise spiritual, emotional and bodily balance.
Club Lounge onLevel 36 offers a more relaxing abode for guests.
The oversized bathtub, plush linens and plump pillows make the guest feels pampered.
