African Independent - - SPORT - THOMAS

person or persons but include myself in the collective group that failed those families.

I have heard people blaming ticket touts, others pointing fingers at the two clubs, and others still blaming stadium management, while some accused fans of going to the stadium without match tickets.

I can also jump onto the bandwagon and accuse the safety personnel for lacking the prerequisite training to deal with volatile situations, and blame organisers for failing to throw a cordon around the stadium precinct where people without tickets should never have been allowed.

As a media practitioner, I should have also warned patrons who thronged the calabash shaped stadium about our collective shortcomings to have put in place adequate measures to guarantee their safety, but I failed and so bow my head in shame.
