ALEADING black owned construction company which also does business projects in Limpopo has been honoured with glittering awards run by the Construction Industry Development Board [CIBD].

Vharanani Properties owned by property mogul David Mabilu was awarded in the general building and in the civils engineering categories of the prestigious Limpopo Construction Industry Excellence Awards.

The company which has built many roads, government infrastructure and human settlements was awarded for being Best Performing Black Owned and Managed Construction Company.

“These awards mean a lot to us, given the journey travelled by Vharanani Properties since 2001 to date. We are proud to have been honored with two awards,” said Mabilu.

“In our quest to restore our people’s dignity through provision of diverse professional and quality services, this journey has not been a smooth one. It is for this reason that I dedicate the awards to all the Black contractors originating from Limpopo province, all those men and women who have never had the privilege of receiving bridging finance from any financial institution but who have time after time delivered quality work to our people,” he said.

Mabilu said he challenged and encouraged black contractors in the province to work together towards changing the stereotypes that black construction companies cannot dominate the construction space.

He said currently Limpopo is earmarked as one of the provinces that must benefit significantly from government’s investment in infrastructure development. Good news for the construction sector in the province is that in his state of the province address in Polokwane last month Premier Chupu Mathabatha committed a huge chunk of the budget towards infrastructural development in various sectors.

Mabilu said in order to achieve the very best, black owned companies must come together in support of structures such as the Black Business Council in Built Environment [BBCBE] and bring positive change to the people of Limpopo.

Mabilu thanked the Limpopo government for affording the company the opportunity to showcase its skills and expertise.

“For this recognition and for all the contributions, we are humbled. We pledge our continued commitment to this province, to its growth and its development,” he said.

He said the awards “makes us the biggest company which is black owned in Limpopo.

“It means there is no other construction company in Limpopo which is bigger than us, because grade 9 is the last number,” said an elated Mabilu.
