Pa­cofs’ arts train­ing ini­tia­tive

THE Per­form­ing Arts Cen­tre of the Free State (Pa­cofs) is em­bark­ing on a jour­ney to em­power emerg­ing arts in the prov­ince through in­ten­sive train­ing.

Act­ing mar­ket­ing and com­mu­ni­ca­tions man­ager Maseeta Mak­ga­bane said they have de­vel­oped a ca­pac­ity -build­ing pro­gramme which fo­cuses on skills in scriptwrit­ing, di­rect­ing, act­ing, pro­duc­ing, tech­ni­cal ser­vices, mar­ket­ing and and ad­min­is­tra­tion.

“The ul­ti­mate aim with this pro­gramme is to de­velop and cre­ate a pool of pro­fes­sion­als.

“The pri­mary tar­get groups are women and un­em­ployed youth in ru­ral ar­eas and peo­ple with dis­abil­i­ties,” Mak­ga­bane said.

She said they aim to cre­ate jobs for artists by de­vel­op­ing pro­duc­tions that will be per­formed in the var­i­ous venues of Pa­cofs in the next fi­nan­cial year and also tour and per­form in the prov­ince.

The clos­ing date for ap­pli­ca­tions to the pro­gramme is June 25 and it will com­mence on July 1.
