Mthembu also dismissed perceptions the ANC was following the EFF’s agenda. “Did we really follow the EFF? I would say ‘No’ we did not. What did the EFF want”? On calls by the DA for an inquiry into the suitability public protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane for her job, Mthembu said the ANC would not go against the Act that had created her office. “Anyone who wants to remove public protector must prove the public protector is incompetent and show through evidence she is unable to run that office.”
The ANC would support any proven evidence that “the person we have here is just incompetent but we must still prove that the person is incompetent”.
On the past six months, he said: “The first the first half of this year in Parliament has been nothing but extraordinary.”
